Gender parity is key to human rights!

At KNCHR, gender representation is at the core of human rights advocacy. With a 50% gender-balanced workforce, diverse hiring practices, and a multi-sectoral approach, the Commission remains steadfast in addressing emerging challenges such as climate change, which disproportionately affects women and marginalized communities.

On International Women’s Day 2025, Commissioner Dr. Wamalwa Dennis joined stakeholders, advocates, and policymakers in reaffirming the commitment to breaking barriers and accelerating change for women in human rights. As a champion for inclusion and equity, he reiterated the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights’ (KNCHR) dedication to fostering a society where gender balance is not just an aspiration but a reality.

Dr. Wamalwa emphasized the importance of gender-sensitive policies and legal frameworks that promote women’s rights and participation across all sectors. He acknowledged that while progress has been made, more work remains to dismantle systemic inequalities and create opportunities for women in leadership, governance, and decision-making.

“Inclusivity and equity are not just buzzwords; they are the foundation of a just society. As we celebrate International Women’s Day, we must continue to push for policies that break barriers and accelerate change for women, ensuring their voices are heard and their rights upheld,” he stated.

The event underscored the need for collaboration among government institutions, civil society organizations, and the private sector to champion gender justice. Dr. Wamalwa reaffirmed his commitment to working alongside partners in advocating for stronger policies and practical interventions that uplift women and advance gender equity in Kenya and beyond.

As the world commemorates International Women’s Day 2025, the call to action remains clear: Breaking barriers, fostering inclusion, and ensuring that every woman and girl has equal opportunities to thrive.
