Introduction

Commissioner Dr. Wamalwa Dennis had the privilege of attending the KNCHR & IRCK Sensitization Meeting on Intersex Rights held today at Pride Inn Paradise, Mombasa. This pivotal gathering brought together key representatives from the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), The Inter-Religious Council of Kenya (IRCK) and United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to engage in meaningful dialogue on the rights and recognition of intersex persons in Kenya.

The meeting focused on building awareness and understanding of the unique challenges faced by intersex Persons, with the goal of fostering an inclusive society where their rights are fully respected and upheld. Participants discussed the critical need for comprehensive legal protections, greater community awareness, and the role of religious leaders in advocating for the rights of intersex persons.

Commissioner Dr. Wamalwa, who has been a leading voice in intersex advocacy, emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between human rights bodies and religious institutions to ensure that intersex persons are not only recognized but also supported in all aspects of life. He reiterated KNCHR’s commitment to driving forward the intersex rights agenda and working towards a future where all individuals can live with dignity and equality.

As the discussions concluded, there was a shared sense of determination to build on the progress made and continue the work of raising awareness and advocating for policy reforms that benefit intersex persons across Kenya.
