On 16th February 2025, Commissioner Dr. Dennis Wamalwa facilitated a thought-provoking and impactful session at Christ is the Answer Ministries (CITAM) Rongai, focusing on “Counselling the Intersex.” The event, organized under CITAM’s Counselling Ministry Training, brought together a diverse audience eager to gain insights into providing compassionate and informed support for intersex persons.

In his presentation, Dr. Wamalwa highlighted the importance of understanding the unique experiences and challenges faced by intersex persons. He shared practical counselling approaches, emphasizing empathy, confidentiality, and advocacy as key pillars in fostering safe and inclusive spaces.

The interactive session delved into the legal and social contexts surrounding intersex rights in Kenya, with Dr. Wamalwa drawing on his extensive experience in human rights advocacy and legislative processes. Attendees engaged actively, asking questions and reflecting on how faith communities can champion dignity and equality for all.

“As a society, we have a collective responsibility to ensure that intersex persons are seen, heard, and supported with love and respect,” Dr. Wamalwa noted during his closing remarks.

The event concluded on a powerful note, with participants expressing their commitment to applying the knowledge gained to positively impact their communities. Friends from outside CITAM were warmly welcomed, showcasing the ministry’s openness to fostering broader conversations on human rights and inclusion.

This engagement is part of Dr. Wamalwa’s ongoing work as the lead voice on intersex issues at the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights, where he continues to advocate for policy reforms and societal acceptance.
