The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) has officially welcomed its new Chairperson, Ms. Claris Ogangah, following her swearing-in ceremony presided over by Chief Justice Martha Koome. The event, attended by Commissioners, senior management, and staff, signified a new chapter in the Commission’s ongoing mission to safeguard human rights, dignity, and justice for all people in Kenya.

Commissioner Dr. Wamalwa Dennis, who joined the KNCHR family in witnessing the ceremony, expressed his heartfelt congratulations to Ms. Ogangah on her appointment and assumption of office. He noted that her leadership marks a renewed commitment to strengthening the institution’s legacy as a Class A National Human Rights Institution, accredited for its independence, credibility, and impact in advancing human rights protection in the country.

“We warmly welcome Chairperson Ogangah’s leadership as she takes the helm of our esteemed institution. Her vision and dedication come at a time when the Commission continues to expand its efforts in promoting dignity, equality, and justice for all,” said Commissioner Dr. Wamalwa.

Ms. Ogangah brings to KNCHR a wealth of experience in law, governance, and public administration, having served in various capacities within the justice and human rights sectors. Her appointment is expected to enhance the Commission’s strategic direction in addressing emerging human rights issues, strengthening partnerships, and ensuring that vulnerable and marginalized communities continue to receive protection and representation.

Under her stewardship, KNCHR is poised to deepen its engagement with state and non-state actors, expand human rights education, and reinforce mechanisms for accountability and redress. The Commission’s focus remains anchored in its constitutional mandate — to promote a culture of human rights, monitor compliance with international standards, and hold duty bearers accountable.

Commissioner Dr. Wamalwa reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with the new Chairperson and fellow Commissioners in advancing the institution’s mandate. He emphasized that collective leadership and collaboration within the Commission are essential in realizing KNCHR’s vision of a just, equitable, and rights-respecting society.

“This transition offers an opportunity for renewed energy, unity, and focus in our shared mission of ensuring that every Kenyan enjoys the full protection of their fundamental rights and freedoms,” he added.

As Ms. Ogangah assumes office, the KNCHR family extends its full support and confidence in her leadership, reaffirming its dedication to defending human rights for all leaving no one behind.
